INSTRUMENTS FOR INDIA

In August 2008 I was part of a team from the Kairos Trust and Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast who visited India on a ten day trip to take a three day conference for Pastors and Church Leaders and to visit projects that both the Trust and Church sponsored, including future projects for consideration. It was my first visit to India and the warmth of the people was amazing. India is a challenging country of many contrasts. To see real poverty face to face is very different from watching it on a news broadcast.

My role as part of the conference team was to teach and minister on worship. In visiting many of the poorest villages one of the many things I discovered was the joy that music brought to the people and especially the children. Music was at the heart of community and family life. In the conference I met a wonderful group of Indian people who visited many of the rural areas and brought (in a small way because of the lack of resources) musical instruments for the children and young people to play. This birthed in me a desire to assist these people. I thought of the many simple wind instruments (recorders I played at school) that I have lying unplayed at home. Instruments that work well, but that I do not play anymore.

So through this website I am making an appeal to you. If you have any musical instruments that you would be happy to donate to the "Instruments for India" project, please send them to us. All instruments received will be shipped to India by the Kairos Trust and Fisherwick Presbyterian Church.

All you have to do is post the instrument to the following address:

Instruments for India, c/o Raymond Robinson, Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, 4 Chlorine Gardens, Belfast, BT9 5DJ, Northern Ireland, UK. Please email me at raarobinson@talk21.com before you post the instruments to ensure that they will be appropriate for India.

The children of India will be grateful for your generosity. Thank you.

Below are a small selection of photographs of those you will be helping.
